The word ‘Yoga’ means to yoke , join or unite. Through yoga you reach to a state of awareness, understanding and complete mastery over the mind and body. It brings union between the individual consciousness and the Universal consciousness, back to the natural state of Oneness away from any separation.
Yoga is not a religion, it is a way of living whose aim is ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’. Man is a physical, mental and spiritual being, yoga helps promote a balanced development of all three…
The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind, it helps to manage stress and anxiety and keep you relaxing. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It improves respiration, energy and vitality.
Benefits of practicing yoga: Attainment of perfect equilibrium and harmony… Promotes self- healing…
Removes negative blocks from the mind and toxins from the body… Enhances Personal power…
Increases self-awareness… Helps in attention focus and concentration, especially important for children…
Reduces stress and tension in the physical body by activating the parasympathetic nervous system…
As taught by Yogi Bhajan
“In Kundalini Yoga the most important thing is your experience… It goes right to your heart, no words can replace your experience.” Yogi Bhajan
Kundalini Yoga is a yoga for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses. It is for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of living in this day and age…
The basics of Kundalini yoga are asanas, mudras, bandhas (energy locks), and mantras (sound currents).
The classes are a blend of postures that are either repetitive or held for a specific amount of time, and supported with pranayama, mantras and meditations…
No previous experience in yoga is required to achieve results from the very first class, and it is suitable for students of all levels…
The Kundalini energy, which lies dormant at the base of the spine, is the life force of the universe… Awakened, it is creation in motion…
Through the use of breath, movement and sound we can indeed awaken this powerful energy within and the benefits of Kundalini are plentiful. It strengthens all of the internal body systems – glandular system, nervous system, lymphatic and digestive system as well as balancing all the chakras…
It is healing, mentally and physically, and provides an immense sense of wellbeing, openness and aliveness… It strengthens core energy, focus and concentration capacities, and can successfully tackle resistance to letting go of old habits that no longer serve you… Your entire being will be more balanced, helping you to communicate more effectively and to make the right choices in your life, opening yourself up to constant progress and true happiness…
There are thousands of Kriyas, for example to balance and strengthen the nervous system, to detox your kidneys, for disease resistance, to heal your spine, to open your heart – the list is limitless and this is what makes this science so fascinating. Once you step in, you realize this ocean is endless, bountiful and blissful. And it is challenging you – the deep spirituality that lies at the core of its teachings will guide and support you – to open yourself up to your creativity and power, facing the challenges of your life with joy, strength and love. Kundalini yoga is not an exercise – it is an experience – giving you the experience of your true Self – this is why it is called the ‘Yoga of Awareness’.
“Kundalini Yoga is simply the uncoiling of yourself to find your potential and your vitality and reach your virtues. There is nothing outside, everything is you. You are the storehouse of your totality.” Yogi Bhajan
Starting a Kundalini Yoga class we always tune in:
Chanting the ADI MANTRA:
“ONG NAMO GURU DEV NAMO”
“I bow to the Divine wisdom”
The ONG is vibrated in the back of the throat, the cranium and nasal passages, to stimulate the pituitary and pineal glands which automatically tunes us into higher consciousness.
This chant protects and connects us with our higher selves. It also links us with the “Golden Chain” of teachers that came before us…
Ong means Creator, Namo means to call upon, or to greet, Guru is the Teacher or the energy that brings light and dispells the darkness. Dev means transparent or nonphysical.
Then we chant 3 times:
Mangala Charan mantra for Guidance and Protection:
AD GURAY NAMEH
JUGAD GURAY NAMEH
SAT GURAY NAMEH
SIRI GURU DAYV-AY NAMEH
I bow to the primal wisdom.
I bow to the wisdom true through the ages.
I bow to the true wisdom. I bow to the great unseen wisdom.
The Mangala Charan mantra (Aad Guray Nameh) can be chanted at any time, any place, whenever there is a need for protection. This mantra helps to bring clarity when there is doubt and opens to a sense of guidance from the highest sense of Self.
We close up chanting:
“May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you, and the pure light within you, guide your way on”.
Ending up with long Sat Nam‘s. Saaaaaaaaaat is long and Nam is short.
SAT = TRUTH NAM = NAME
Truth = You = Me = One
My soul recognizes your soul… I honor the love, light, beauty, truth and kindness within you because it is also within me… In sharing these things there is no distance and no difference between us… We are the same, We are one…
